The Pontiac Torrent was introduced in the 2006 model year, and the Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in the 2005 model year. All 2006 and later Torrent and Equinox models built after January 2006 include structural changes to improve occupant protection in frontal crashes (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door).
Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test conducted by General Motors. The tested vehicle was manufactured after the structural modifications had been made.

Tested vehicle: 2008 Chevrolet Equinox LT 4-door 4wd without optional side airbags
The Chevrolet Equinox was introduced in the 2005 model year, and the Pontiac Torrent was introduced in the 2006 model year. Beginning with 2009 models, all Equinox and Torrent models have standard side airbags.
