About the original moderate overlap front test

Side: original test

Rating applies to 2013-15 models

Tested vehicle: 2015 Lexus RX 350 4-door 4wd with standard front and rear head curtain airbags and standard front and rear seat-mounted torso airbags

The Lexus RX was redesigned for the 2010 model year. Beginning with 2013 models, design changes were made to the side curtain airbags and rear door trim panels to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes. Beginning with 2015 models, the side curtain airbags were extended farther forward, but this change does not affect performance in the Institute's side impact test.

Three tests of the RX were conducted by Toyota, one a 2010 model, the second a 2013 model, and the third was designated as a 2011 model but included all of the design changes of the 2013 and 2015 models. Side ratings are assigned by the Institute. Ratings for the 2013 and 2015 models are combined, but the structure rating is based on all three tests because there were no structural changes.
