Driver restraints and dummy kinematics
The dummy’s face remained in contact with the frontal airbag, but its head still rolled around the left side of the steering wheel toward the intruding A-pillar. The side curtain airbag deployed but does not have sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with forward side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag deployed.

Action shot taken during the small overlap frontal crash test.

The dummy's position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was not maintained well.

The dummy’s head contacted the frontal airbag but then rolled around to the left side. The side curtain airbag does not extend far enough forward toward the A-pillar to protect the head from possible contact with forward side structure.

Parking brake pedal, door hinge pillar, and instrument panel intrusion was extensive and contributed to a high risk of injury to the left lower leg, a significant risk to the left foot, and a moderate risk to the left hip.

About the small overlap front test

Moderate overlap front: original test

Rating applies to 2011-24 models

Tested vehicle: 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4-door 4wd

The Dodge Durango was redesigned for the 2011 model year. The vehicle is derived from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was also redesigned for 2011. The Durango has a longer wheelbase and overall length to accommodate three rows of seats. Frontal structure is essentially similar to that of the Grand Cherokee, and the seat belts and frontal airbags are identical. Frontal ratings are assigned by the Institute based on a test of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee conducted by Chrysler Corporation.

About the original moderate overlap front test

Side: original test

Rating applies to 2011-24 models built after May 2011

Tested vehicle: 2011 Dodge Durango Express 4-door 4wd with standard head curtain airbags for all three rows of seats and standard front seat-mounted torso airbags

The Dodge Durango was redesigned for the 2011 model year. Beginning with 2011 models built after May 2011, design changes were made to the side airbags to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes. (Information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on the driver door or adjacent B-pillar.) The tested car was built after the side airbag changes were made.
