Driver restraints and dummy kinematics
Dummy movement was not well controlled. During the crash, the driver seat came loose on one of its tracks and moved forward 4 inches on the left side. The dummy's head slid around the left side of the airbag and hit the instrument panel.

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

Although intrusion measurements taken after the crash test indicate that the occupant compartment remained largely intact, the driver's survival space was compromised because of the forward seat movement.

Smeared greasepaint on the instrument panel indicates where the dummy's head hit it.

Forces on the lower right leg were high enough to indicate the possibilty of injuries.

About the original moderate overlap front test

Side: original test

Rating applies to 2008-09 models

Tested vehicle: 2007 Pontiac G6 GT 2-door convertible with optional front seat-mounted torso airbags

The Pontiac G6 convertible was introduced in the 2006 model year. Beginning with 2007 models manufactured after January 2007, the reinforcement beam in each door was modified to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes (note: information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on or near the driver door). Beginning with 2008 models, side airbags were made standard (they had been optional in 2006-07 models.

Driver head protection
The dummy's head was hit by the window sill and the side torso airbag, producing high head and neck injury measures.

Rear passenger head protection
The dummy's head was hit by the interior side trim. This impact did not produce high head injury measures, but the head protection is inadequate.

View of the vehicle and barrier just after the crash test.

View of the vehicle after the crash with door removed, showing the side airbag and damage to the occupant compartment.

Smeared greasepaint (excluding the painted yellow lines) shows where the driver dummy's head was hit by the window sill and side airbag.

Smeared greasepaint shows where the rear passenger dummy’s head was hit by the interior side trim.
