Rating applies to 2005-10 models

Tested vehicle: 2005 Pontiac G6 4-door

The Pontiac G6 was introduced in the 2005 model year as a replacement for the Pontiac Grand Am. A short production run of 2010 models were built and sold only to fleets before the car was discontinued.

Driver restraints and dummy kinematics

Action shot taken during the frontal offset crash test.

The dummy's position in relation to the steering wheel and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver's survival space was maintained very well.

Smeared greasepaint indicates where the dummy's head hit roof rail during rebound. Head acceleration from this hit was low.

Intrusion into the driver's space was minimal (shown with carpeting removed).

About the original moderate overlap front test

Side: original test

Rating applies to 2007 models

Tested vehicle: 2006 Pontiac G6 4-door with optional front and rear head curtain airbags and optional front seat-mounted torso airbags

The Pontiac G6 was introduced in the 2005 model year. Beginning with 2006 models manufactured after June 2005, changes were made to the side torso airbags and front and rear door trim panels to improve occupant protection in side impact crashes. Beginning with 2007 models, side curtain airbags became standard, but side torso airbags remained optional. Beginning with 2008 models, the side torso airbags also became standard.

Two tests of a 2006 G6 were conducted, one with optional side curtain and side torso airbags for the driver and rear passenger, and one without any side airbags. Both cars were manufactured after all design changes for 2006 had been made. These vehicles are rated separately, except that the structural ratings for both vehicles are based on both tests.

Action shot taken during the side impact crash test showing the driver dummy's head was protected from being hit by hard structures by the side curtain airbag.

Smeared greasepaint shows where the rear passenger dummy’s head was protected by the side airbag.
